BOC Seizes Ecstasy and Heroin Parcels at NAIA
Operatives from the Bureau of Customs (BOC) intercepted six parcels containing illegal drugs worth around P4.43 million at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday. The seizure highlights the bureau’s commitment to stopping drug smuggling through vigilant screening and cooperation.
Details of the Seizure of Ecstasy and Heroin Parcels
The intercepted shipments were found at NAIA’s Central Mail Exchange Center. Inside the parcels, authorities discovered 1,330 ecstasy tablets and 362 grams of heroin. These substances were concealed inside packages falsely declared as skincare products and plumbing materials.
The BOC confirmed that the illegal drugs were smuggled from Ireland, the Netherlands, and Thailand. This operation underscores the bureau’s persistent efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks by improving intelligence gathering and inter-agency coordination.
Coordination and Legal Action Following the Seizure
The Bureau of Customs worked closely with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG) to carry out the operation. Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio emphasized their dedication, stating, “These seizures demonstrate our resolve to dismantle drug smuggling networks through enhanced intelligence, inter-agency collaboration, and strict screening protocols.”
After the confiscation, the illegal drugs were turned over to PDEA for further investigation and prosecution. The legal proceedings will follow the provisions of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act 10863, the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
