Body Found Floating Tacloban City Waters Confirmed
Authorities confirmed the body found floating off the waters of Barangay 99-Diit in Tacloban City on Monday belongs to a woman who was reported abducted in Ormoc City last week. This tragic discovery has intensified the investigation surrounding the abduction and death of the victim.
The victim, known only as “Thea,” was a 35-year-old single mother and caregiver from Barangay Valencia, Ormoc City. On July 31, three armed men forcibly took her into a black vehicle and fled toward Kananga, Leyte. Thea’s disappearance had alarmed local communities and authorities alike.
Discovery and Identification of the Victim’s Body
At 8:15 a.m., local fishermen, including a 61-year-old named Eli from Barangay Tigbao, spotted the body floating in Tacloban City waters. They promptly reported the find to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). Responding quickly, the Tacloban City Fishery Law Enforcement Team, led by Mark Deody Nerja, retrieved the remains.
During an initial examination, police noticed distinctive tattoos and physical traits matching those of the missing woman. The victim’s sister, Pat, later confirmed the identity after viewing the body at a local funeral home in Cebu. Coordinated efforts between the Tacloban City Police Office and Ormoc City Police Office were vital in this confirmation.
Investigation Underway Into Circumstances
Officials suspect foul play in the case and are actively pursuing all leads to uncover the circumstances behind Thea’s abduction and death. Police Brig. Gen. Jay Cumigad, director of Police Regional Office 8, promised a thorough and impartial investigation. He also assured the public that justice will be served.
Authorities have not yet revealed details about possible suspects or motives, aiming to avoid compromising ongoing inquiries. The case remains a priority for law enforcement in the region.
