Bohol’s Financial Aid Supports Hog Raisers Battling ASF
CEBU CITY – The provincial government of Bohol has provided financial help to hog raisers affected by the African Swine Flu (ASF). Governor Aris Aumentado led the release of P4.3 million in cash assistance on June 9. This effort is part of the province’s indemnification program, managed by the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV).
A total of 357 hog raisers from eight towns received the aid, as the program aims to help them recover and rebuild their livelihoods. Gov. Aumentado emphasized the importance of this support in protecting the local hog-raising community.
Strong Measures Against ASF Spread
The governor praised those who contributed to controlling ASF in Bohol. “What we want to happen is to prevent ASF from affecting the province. Let’s help prevent the spread of ASF. This is a very serious issue,” he said, highlighting the critical nature of the challenge.
He also recognized the efforts of the OPV, local government units (LGUs), and other stakeholders. “Even if the virus was able to enter our province, I am proud that because of our determination and the hardworking people of OPV and our LGUs, we were able to control the spread of ASF. It did not cause significant damage,” Aumentado noted.
Continued Vigilance and Public Support Needed
The governor appealed for ongoing cooperation from residents to sustain the fight against ASF. He stressed that the welfare of hog raisers remains a top priority. “I hope you can feel our seriousness in fighting ASF. We have to pray that vaccine will be available soon. I hope that you will understand that what we are doing is for the welfare of the hog-raising community in our province,” he added.
Out of 48 towns in Bohol, only 15 have been affected by ASF. Data shows that among 1,109 barangays, 41 currently report active ASF cases. Meanwhile, 119 barangays monitored closely by the OPV have not recorded any cases in the past 30 days.
