Bohol Farmers Gain from P970 Million Irrigation Project
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Approximately 800 farmers in Bohol will soon benefit from a P970 million irrigation project that has been in the works for over 30 years. The Hibale Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) aims to enhance water supply to 405 hectares of farmland in Danao town’s agriculture-dependent villages: Hibale, Nahud, Poblacion, and Sto. Niño.
This irrigation project is expected to significantly boost farm productivity by providing essential irrigation water to local farmers. The Hibale SRIP, a major development in Bohol’s agricultural sector, promises to transform the way farmers cultivate their lands by ensuring a more reliable water source.
Project Timeline and Goals
Construction for this long-awaited project began last week and is scheduled for completion in early 2028, according to Engr. Antonio Gujeling, acting regional manager of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA). The project’s timely completion is crucial to support the province’s efforts toward improving food security and agricultural output.
Governor Erico Aumentado expressed optimism about the project’s impact. He believes that the irrigation system will help increase farm productivity in Danao, providing a much-needed boost to local farmers and the economy.
Local Leaders Celebrate Milestone
During the project launch, Representative Vanessa Aumentado addressed local officials and farmer groups, saying, “This is not just our dream, but your dream as well — a dream for all of us, now finally realized. Thank you to the National Irrigation Administration for this collaborative effort.”
The project was originally envisioned by the late Governor Erico Boyles Aumentado, who championed the creation of irrigation dams as a key strategy to enhance food production in the province.
As Bohol’s agricultural communities prepare to receive this vital infrastructure, many farmers are hopeful that the project will bring lasting improvements to their livelihoods and the local economy.
