Bohol Governor Focuses on Self-Reliant, Resilient Province
TAGBILARAN CITY — Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado has declared his administration’s main goals for his second term, putting a strong emphasis on making Bohol a more self-reliant, resilient province. Key areas of focus include agriculture, food security, livelihood development, and attracting investments to boost the local economy.
In his inaugural speech, Aumentado highlighted the importance of enhancing agricultural productivity and fortifying communities against economic and environmental challenges. “We will intensify efforts to build livelihoods, help communities become more self-reliant and resilient, and attract more investments that create real, lasting value,” he said.
Strategies to Strengthen Local Economy
To expand the province’s economy, Aumentado outlined two main strategies. First, increasing production through investments and enterprise development. Second, raising household income by improving access to essential goods and services such as food, housing, transportation, education, and healthcare. These efforts aim to uplift the living standards of Boholanos and strengthen the province’s economic foundation.
Tourism and Sustainable Development as Economic Drivers
Recognizing tourism as a vital economic engine, Aumentado plans to maximize the potential of the Bohol-Panglao International Airport. This gateway will serve to attract more tourists and investments, boosting opportunities in the coming years. The governor also envisions positioning Bohol as a unique destination by reinforcing its status as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
This vision includes promoting regenerative tourism, which combines environmental conservation, active community involvement, and sustainable visitor experiences. “These initiatives are about future-proofing our province,” Aumentado explained. “We want growth that lasts—growth that respects our environment, uplifts communities, and makes Bohol a better place to live, work, and visit.”
Progress and Future Outlook
Since assuming office in 2022, Aumentado has overseen significant progress in Bohol’s post-pandemic recovery. Poverty incidence has dropped from 19.1 percent in 2021 to 14.8 percent in 2024, reflecting improvements in the lives of many residents. Local leaders noted that this progress underscores the importance of sustainable growth and resilience in the province’s development plan.
As Bohol moves forward, the administration remains committed to creating a province that can thrive independently, withstand future challenges, and offer lasting benefits to its communities.
