Bohol Local Governments Suspend Classes Amid Crising Storm
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — At least 35 local government units (LGUs) in Bohol province suspended classes on Friday due to heavy rains from Tropical Storm Crising and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat. The class suspensions aimed to ensure the safety of students and residents amid worsening weather conditions.
Anthony Damalerio, chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), reported that Bohol experienced intense rain and strong winds early Friday morning. These conditions prompted precautionary actions across the province’s municipalities and city.
Class Suspensions Across Bohol’s Districts
Bohol is composed of 47 municipalities and one city. The local governments responded swiftly to the threat posed by the storm and monsoon rains.
In the first district, classes were suspended in Alburquerque, Antequera, Baclayon, Balilihan, Calape, Catigbian, Corella, Cortes, Dauis, Loon, Panglao, Sikatuna, Tagbilaran City, and Tubigon. The third district saw suspensions in Anda, Batuan, Bilar, Candijay, Carmen, Dimiao, Duero, Garcia Hernandez, Jagna, Lila, Loay, Loboc, Sevilla, and Valencia. This widespread suspension reflects the serious concerns over the storm’s impact on daily life.
Urgent Warnings and Evacuation Plans
In Tagbilaran City, Mayor Jane Yap ordered the suspension of classes at all levels in both public and private schools following advice from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO). She emphasized the seriousness of the weather threat.
“Evacuation plans for coastal barangays are now on red alert and may be activated at any time should the situation escalate,” Mayor Yap said. Local leaders stressed the need for residents, especially those in low-lying and coastal areas, to remain vigilant and follow official weather updates closely.
Residents were urged to prepare for possible evacuation and to prioritize safety amid the combined effects of Tropical Storm Crising and the habagat winds. Authorities continue monitoring weather developments to provide timely information and assistance.
