Bomb Threat on Cebu Pacific Flight Causes Alarm
A Cebu Pacific flight from Manila to Zamboanga City faced a bomb threat onboard on Saturday, June 14. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) confirmed the alarming discovery during a routine inspection after the plane landed.
Flight 5J851 left Manila at 6 a.m. and arrived at Zamboanga City airport by 7:55 a.m. Shortly after landing, a cabin crew member found a tissue paper roll inside one of the aircraft’s lavatories bearing the chilling message: “may bomba” (There is a bomb onboard). This immediate discovery triggered swift security protocols.
Security Measures and Investigation
The flight attendant promptly alerted airport security personnel, who quickly responded by initiating extensive security measures. These included a thorough sweep of the aircraft and a detailed inspection of the passenger terminal building.
By 8:58 a.m., authorities completed the search and confirmed no explosives were found. The situation was declared under control a minute later at 8:59 a.m., allowing airport operations to resume without delay.
Passengers were cleared for boarding, and flight activities continued smoothly, according to local sources. The quick response helped avoid further disruptions and ensured passenger safety remained the top priority.
CAAP’s Serious Stance on Bomb Threats
The CAAP emphasized that bomb threats, whether verbal, written, or communicated through any form, are treated with utmost seriousness. They reminded the public that such acts are punishable under Presidential Decree No. 1727, which penalizes the malicious spread of false bomb information.
“CAAP is treating the incident as a serious security concern. The public is strongly reminded that bomb threats, whether made verbally, in writing, or through any means, are punishable under Presidential Decree No. 1727,” local authorities noted.
This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and strict adherence to security protocols at airports nationwide. Authorities urge the public to help maintain safety by reporting suspicious activities immediately.
