Brigada Eskwela 2025: A Call for Bayanihan and Education
The Department of Education (DepEd) will officially launch Brigada Eskwela 2025 on Monday, June 9. Education Secretary Sonny Angara invites Filipinos to embrace the true spirit of this campaign beyond cleaning schools. “Brigada Eskwela is more than just fixing the schools; it is a bayanihan movement,” Angara emphasized.
He urged all education advocates and partners to join not only in refurbishing classrooms but in creating supportive environments that empower every Filipino child to read. This year’s Brigada Eskwela 2025, running from June 9 to 13, carries the theme “Brigada Eskwela: Sama-sama Para sa Bayang Bumabasa,” highlighting the vital connection between community involvement and literacy development.
More Than Repairs: Fostering a Reading Culture
While physical repairs remain important, Angara stressed that the deeper mission of Brigada Eskwela 2025 is to cultivate a culture of reading. This foundation aims to improve learning outcomes across schools nationwide. He encouraged everyone to contribute, noting that small acts—whether donating time, supplies, or effort—can make a lasting difference.
During the week, DepEd is mobilizing volunteers, teachers, parents, and partners for activities such as reading sessions, storytelling, classroom cleanups, minor repairs, and medical checkups. The department also welcomes donations of school furniture, learning materials, hygiene kits, food, and other essentials.
Eco-Friendly Efforts in Brigada Eskwela 2025
Environmental group EcoWaste Coalition supports Angara’s call for collective action, emphasizing that this year’s Brigada Eskwela 2025 should prioritize sustainability. “We enjoin our schools across the country to conduct this unique expression of the ‘Bayanihan’ spirit in the most eco-friendly manner possible to avoid garbage and pollution,” said Aileen Lucero, the group’s national coordinator.
To help participants, EcoWaste issued green guidelines recommending reduced plastic use, avoidance of harmful chemicals, and steering clear of PVC tarpaulins. These practices align with existing DepEd policies on solid waste management, lead-safe paint, and anti-smoking rules on school premises.
Preparing for the School Year Ahead
With classes resuming on June 16, Angara reminded everyone that the true strength of Brigada Eskwela 2025 lies not in the number of repairs but in the bayanihan spirit that unites communities to invest in the future of Filipino learners.
