BTS Jin Interviews Tom Cruise in Seoul
BTS member Jin recently sat down with Hollywood star Tom Cruise in a special interview during Cruise’s visit to South Korea. The Grammy-nominated K-pop group’s Jin welcomed Cruise to the “Run Jin” web series on BTS’ YouTube channel, Bangtan TV. The interview, uploaded on May 20, marked a memorable moment as Jin said, “Today, we’re gonna do something a little more special.” This meeting quickly drew attention, highlighting the unique interaction between the global music icon and the celebrated actor.
Jin opened the conversation with a friendly question: “Do you know BTS?” Cruise responded enthusiastically, “Yes. I know BTS. We all know BTS.” Jin then exclaimed, “Guys, Tom Cruise knows BTS.” The actor went on to praise BTS’s success, saying, “First of all, I just wanna say congratulations. Your band and your career, and what you’ve created, it’s very impressive. And I’m a big fan. I’m very happy to be here, to be on your show right now.”
Jin fondly recalled that when he turned 15, his first exposure to action films was through the “Mission: Impossible” series. “That’s what I remember. And having him today on this show is such an honor,” Jin added. This visit marked Cruise’s 12th trip to South Korea, showing his strong connection to the country.
Tom Cruise’s Admiration for Korean Culture
During the interview, Cruise shared his admiration for South Korean culture, people, and cuisine. He explained, “Always the people of Korea. Always, from the moment that I first came here, it is how impressive it is—the culture. The people are incredible. The history of Korea, of course. I very much enjoy the food. And also, they love movies. They make great films here. I always love coming to bring a movie here, to entertain. And the music, of course. It’s all part of the culture what you’ve done, and I greatly admire it.”
Cruise also described the energetic atmosphere he experiences whenever he visits the country. “I feel energized being in this culture, being here. When I landed yesterday, I spent time… People were there at the airport. They were waiting a long time. It’s beautiful. And I went, I go to this place and I go eat barbecue chicken. I like the Korean barbecue chicken. So everyone is so energetic and so warm and friendly. I love it, I absolutely love it,” he said.
Behind the Scenes of Mission: Impossible
Jin then asked Cruise about the challenges faced while filming “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” Cruise revealed the extensive effort behind the action scenes. “Many. Look, this movie took seven years. And those sequences took years to develop. Very, very complicated, very technical. The mask we had developed. The whole sequence was incredibly dangerous to do. It took years to build the water tanks and build the sets,” Cruise shared.
He continued, “The final sequence, the aerial sequence. I fly the aerobatic airplanes, I fly jets, I fly helicopters. All of that, aerobatics. I’m a parachutist. So all of these things to come up with and figure out what kind of airplane, how to do the sequence, we’re actually inventing knowledge when we’re doing these things.”
The Wing-Walking Experience
Jin also inquired about the famous wing-walking scene in the movie. Cruise explained how physically demanding it was. “The stuff that you’re seeing with the wing-walking has never been done before. I didn’t know physically what it would take. Within five minutes it was like the hardest weight workout you’ve ever done. Ever. I really had to improve my power to be able to do it. The wind is so hard that when you step out of the cockpit it hits you so hard that it’s hard to breathe. It’s going so fast. The kind of training that I had to do surprised me. I had to change my whole training regime. It was definitely the most challenging action I’ve ever done,” he said.
As the interview concluded, Cruise expressed his gratitude toward the fans. “I’m just very happy to be here. Thank you for always allowing me to entertain you,” he said, closing a remarkable dialogue between two global icons.
