Bukidnon Centenarians Gain Recognition and Support
MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon – The provincial government of Bukidnon continues to honor its elderly residents, having recorded 21 centenarians since the launch of its cash incentive program last year. This initiative aims to celebrate the remarkable milestone of reaching 100 years of age and beyond.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Ellen Salumintao shared that the latest additions to the list of Bukidnon centenarians include two individuals from Manolo Fortich town and two from Malaybalay City. The program highlights the province’s commitment to valuing its senior citizens.
Oldest Centenarian in Bukidnon
Among the distinguished elders, the oldest recorded centenarian is a 110-year-old man residing in Talakag town, as noted by local social welfare officials. Such longevity is a testament to the resilience and rich heritage of Bukidnon’s senior population.
Cash Incentives Awarded to Centenarians
On August 12, Bukidnon Governor Rogelio Neil Roque, together with Manolo Fortich Mayor Rogelio Quino, personally awarded P50,000 cash incentives to two centenarians: Amadeo Dignos, 100, from Barangay Lunocan, and Luisa Quito, 101, from Barangay Damilag. This provincial incentive adds to the P100,000 grant provided by the national government.
Officials explained that these incentives are part of a provincial ordinance enacted last year to complement the national benefits under the Centenarians Act of 2016. The combined support reflects the government’s appreciation for its oldest citizens.
Application Requirements for Incentives
Senior Citizen Focal Person Raquel Cenia emphasized that applicants must present primary documents such as a certificate of live birth and an identification card issued by the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs. In cases where primary records are unavailable, secondary documents like marriage or baptismal certificates are accepted.
Legal Framework Supporting Centenarians
The Centenarians Act of 2016 (Republic Act 10868) guarantees all Filipinos who reach 100 years old, regardless of whether they live in the Philippines or abroad, a P100,000 cash gift from the national government. Additionally, the President issues a certificate of felicitation through the National Commission of Senior Citizens, acknowledging this significant life achievement.
Community members and local leaders have expressed gratitude for these programs, which honor the elderly while providing tangible support to improve their well-being.
