Tragic Electrocution of Bulacan Health Worker Amid Floods
A 49-year-old barangay health worker tragically died from electrocution in Bulacan while checking on medical supplies during rising floodwaters. The incident occurred in the City of Meycauayan as continuous rains and high tide caused widespread flooding.
The victim, Cristina Abisate Padora, was assigned to Barangay Bayugo. She was en route to the Barangay Health Station at 8:18 a.m. to inspect the safety of medical equipment, instruments, and vaccines amid the flooding.
Fatal Accident in Flooded Area
According to local sources, Padora walked through a flooded area and passed beneath a tent near the health station. Investigation revealed a live electrical wire had touched the tent, causing her to be electrocuted unknowingly when she stepped underneath it.
At the time, most of Meycauayan’s 26 barangays were submerged in floodwaters ranging from two to four feet due to persistent rains and high tide.
Community Mourning and Support
Local leaders expressed their condolences and extended support to Padora’s family. Both the city mayor and congresswoman acknowledged the tragic loss and vowed to assist the bereaved family during this difficult time.
This heartbreaking event highlights the dangers faced by frontline workers during calamities, especially when infrastructure issues like exposed live wires pose deadly threats.
