Calunasan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project Enhances Farming in Bohol
The Calunasan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project is set to transform agricultural productivity for approximately 400 farmers in Bohol. Local leaders noted that the newly inaugurated project promises to bring significant benefits to the farming communities in the province.
The project marker was unveiled by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during the inauguration ceremony held recently. Officials reported that the event also included the presence of National Irrigation Administration Administrator Eduardo Guillen, highlighting the government’s commitment to rural development.
Infrastructure Completion Brings New Hope
During a brief interview, President Marcos expressed his satisfaction, saying it is “always” refreshing to witness a well-executed infrastructure project that reaches completion. This statement reflects the administration’s focus on delivering functional and impactful public works.
The Calunasan SRIP is located in Calape municipality and is designed to irrigate around 300 hectares of farmland. Community members said this will directly support farmers in four barangays: Calunasan, Abucayan Sur, Lucob, and Bentig, enhancing their ability to cultivate crops effectively.
Project Details and Timeline
With an investment of ₱813 million, sources said the project is nearly finished, reaching 97.94 percent completion. The remaining tasks involve slope protection and building a viewing deck, targeted for completion by November 23, 2025.
Since August 20, the dam and irrigation facilities have been fully operational during test runs, providing immediate assistance to local farmers. This operational status marks a significant milestone in improving irrigation infrastructure in the region.
Positive Impact on Local Agriculture
Experts and local officials noted that the Calunasan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project will increase crop yields and stabilize water supply, which is critical for farming communities. The improved irrigation system is expected to reduce farmers’ vulnerability to drought and other climate-related challenges.
Farmers expressed optimism about the project’s potential, hoping it will lead to better harvests and increased income. The collaboration between government agencies and local stakeholders underscores a shared goal of sustainable agricultural progress.
