Camarines Sur Raises Alert Status to Red Due to LPA
The provincial government of Camarines Sur has raised the province’s alert status to red in response to a low-pressure area (LPA) threatening heavy rains and potential flooding. This decisive action aims to prepare residents and authorities for the possible severe weather conditions.
Governor Luis Raymund “Lray” Villafuerte announced that the red alert status became effective at 5 a.m. on Monday. This step is part of the proactive measures implemented by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to ensure public safety.
Emergency Protocols Activated Across the Province
Local leaders reported that with the declaration of the red alert, all local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) councils and response agencies are instructed to activate their emergency protocols. These agencies will operate around the clock to quickly respond to any emergencies that may arise.
“With the declaration of red alert, all local DRRM councils and response agencies are directed to activate their emergency protocols and operate on a 24/7 basis,” Gov. Villafuerte stated, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
Evacuation and Safety Measures Enforced
Community members noted that preemptive and forced evacuations might be implemented in high-risk and low-lying areas to safeguard residents from flooding and other hazards. Authorities remain vigilant and ready to assist vulnerable communities.
Strict water safety protocols are also in place. These include bans on swimming, crossing rivers or the sea, and the operation of small watercraft during the alert period to prevent accidents.
Possible Class and Work Suspensions
Officials reported that localized suspensions of classes and work may be enforced depending on the weather conditions in specific areas. This measure aims to protect the public from unnecessary risks during adverse weather.
Governor Villafuerte urged the public to stay alert and cooperate with authorities as the province closely monitors the weather system’s developments. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities as the province monitors developments related to this weather system,” he added.
Residents are encouraged to follow updates and prepare accordingly to minimize the impact of the low-pressure area on their communities.
