Campaign Materials Removal in Metro Manila Begins
On the first day of cleanup following the May 2025 midterm elections, authorities removed about 10,100 kilograms (11.18 tons) of campaign materials across the National Capital Region. The campaign materials removal covered 16 cities and one municipality in the area.
Extent and Distribution of Campaign Materials Removal
Officials collected a total of 23,452 pieces of campaign paraphernalia during the cleanup. Manila accounted for the largest share, with 4.05 tons of materials taken down. Muntinlupa followed with 1.66 tons, while Quezon City’s Districts II, V, and VI together contributed 1.27 tons.
These materials are being transported to designated locations in Ortigas and Marikina for further processing.
Beneficiaries of Recovered Campaign Materials
The campaign materials removal effort also includes a plan to donate collected items to various partner groups. These beneficiaries include correctional facilities, Tahanang Walang Hagdan, an organization supporting persons with disabilities, and the environmental group EcoWaste Coalition.
Calls for Responsible Campaign Cleanup
Environmental advocates have urged candidates to take responsibility for cleaning up the campaign materials they used during the election period. A representative from EcoWaste Coalition commented, “The mess they leave behind speaks volumes, and the least they can do is clean it up. This is a recurring problem every election season, revealing how candidates often neglect the environmental impact of their campaigns.”
Coordination for Effective Campaign Materials Removal
The group also encouraged election officials and local government agencies to collaborate closely with communities to enforce post-election cleanup regulations properly. Such coordination will help ensure that the campaign materials removal is thorough and environmentally responsible.
