Canceled Flights Disrupt Travel Amid Tropical Storm Crising

Canceled Flights Disrupt Travel as Tropical Storm Crising Hits

MANILA, Philippines — Canceled flights have caused widespread travel disruptions on Friday, July 18, as Tropical Storm Crising brought severe weather conditions across parts of Luzon. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) reported multiple flight cancellations early that day affecting thousands of passengers.

The four-word keyphrase ‘canceled flights’ applies to the many journeys affected by the storm’s impact. Passengers faced uncertainty as airlines suspended operations to ensure safety amid strong winds and heavy rains.

Flight Cancellations and Diversions

As of 9 a.m., Caap confirmed the following Cebu Pacific flights were canceled:

  • 5J 513 and 5J 514 between Manila and San Jose
  • 5J 823 and 5J 824 between Manila and Virac
  • 5J 504, 5J 505, 5J 506, 5J 507, 5J 508, and 5J 509 connecting Manila and Tuguegarao
  • 5J 192 and 5J 193 between Manila and Cauayan
  • DG 6080 and DG 6081 between Cebu and Masbate
  • DG 6113, DG 6114, DG 6117, and DG 6118 linking Manila and Naga

Philippine Airlines also canceled several flights, including:

  • GAP 2962 from Busuanga to Manila
  • GAP 2018 and GAP 2019 between Manila and Cauayan
  • PR 2932 and PR 2933 between Manila and Basco
  • PR 2688 and PR 2689 connecting Clark and Basco

Additionally, some flights were forced to turn back to Manila, such as GAP 296 from Manila to Busuanga and Cebu Pacific’s DG 6055 on the same route.

Passenger Impact and Airline Guidance

Authorities noted that a total of 4,229 passengers were affected by the canceled flights and diversions. The Caap urged travelers to reach out directly to their airlines for assistance with rebooking or refunds.

“Passengers impacted by the flight disruptions are advised to coordinate directly with their respective airlines for assistance regarding rebooking or refund procedures,” sources said.

Weather Update and Safety Precautions

According to the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Tropical Storm Crising intensified slightly and was moving west-northwestward towards the Cagayan-Babuyan Islands. Ten areas in Luzon were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 due to the storm’s strong winds.

At 11 a.m., the storm’s center was located about 195 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. It carried maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts reaching up to 90 kph, moving steadily at 25 kph.

Local leaders emphasized the importance of monitoring weather updates and following safety protocols amid the ongoing storm.
