Candidates Must Remove Election Posters After Voting
The Commission on Elections has reminded all candidates from the 2025 Philippine midterm elections to take down their election posters and campaign materials within five days after the polls. This reminder also covers campaign content posted on social media platforms.
Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco emphasized the importance of compliance, warning that failing to remove these materials promptly could lead to election offenses. “Ayon sa ating resolution na implementation ng ating Fair Elections Act, they have five days to remove their campaign materials and that includes their posts on social media kung direktang campaign material,” he said during an ambush interview.
He added, “It will be deemed as an election offense. Hindi man po mahabol pa ng disqualification, sabihin na natin wala ng time mag-file, meron pa rin naman pong election offense case.” In other words, even if disqualification is no longer possible due to time constraints, an election offense complaint can still be filed.
Consequences of Not Removing Campaign Materials
The commission clarified that candidates convicted of election offenses risk facing disqualification from holding public office. This measure aims to enforce fair play and uphold the integrity of the election process.
The 2025 elections concluded at 7:00 p.m. on May 12, and the Commission on Elections has already started proclaiming winners and canvassing votes. Candidates are expected to comply with the five-day removal rule to avoid legal repercussions.
