Car Theft Incidents Drop 8.5% Nationwide Early 2025
Car theft incidents nationwide dropped by 8.5 percent in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year, local authorities said. The Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP HPG) reported a notable decline in vehicle thefts from January to June this year.
PNP HPG spokesperson Lt. Nadame Malang shared that the number of stolen four-wheeled vehicles decreased from 162 cases last year to around 140 cases so far this year. Meanwhile, thefts involving motorcycles also fell slightly, from 1,002 cases to 964.
Increased Police Presence Helps Reduce Thefts
Malang credited the downtrend to the intensified deployment of PNP HPG personnel nationwide. This effort follows the directive of PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III to boost police visibility and conduct more frequent checkpoints to deter crime.
“The presence of your PNP HPG, with the help of our local police force, especially in conducting checkpoints, has helped to reduce our cases. This is nationwide,” Malang said during a press briefing at Camp Crame.
Community Vigilance Remains Crucial
Authorities urge the public to stay vigilant and adopt preventive measures to further reduce vehicle theft. Malang recommended installing GPS trackers on vehicles and exercising caution when lending them to others.
These efforts, combined with law enforcement’s enhanced strategies, contribute to the ongoing decline in car theft incidents across the country.
