Caraga Police Chief Honors Fallen Cop’s Brave Service

Caraga Police Chief Honors Fallen Cop

In a heartfelt tribute, the police chief of Caraga Region personally visited the wake of a police officer who died in the line of duty. The officer was electrocuted while serving a search warrant in Barobo town, Surigao del Sur, on July 25. This solemn act highlights the deep respect the force holds for those who sacrifice everything while protecting the community.

Police Brigadier General Marcial Mariano P. Magistrado IV, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 13, paid his respects to Patrolman Jankent Tuazon at his family home in Barangay Magaud, Loreto, Agusan del Sur. Officials reported that Magistrado extended condolences and assured the bereaved family of continued support and assistance.

Remembering the Brave Service of Patrolman Tuazon

Patrolman Tuazon’s brave service and ultimate sacrifice remain etched in the hearts of the Caraga police force. As a member of the 1301st Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 13, Tuazon succumbed to injuries sustained during an operation more than two weeks earlier. Community members noted that he passed away on August 10 after battling complications from electrocution.

Tuazon, 28, had served the police force since October 15, 2018. He was a dedicated officer from Purok 1, Magaud, Loreto, Agusan del Sur. His commitment to duty was evident from the start of his career until his untimely death.

Incident Details: Electrocution During Search Warrant Service

On July 25, at around 8 a.m., Search Warrant No. 2025-41 was executed against an individual known as alias “Luisa” for violations of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (Republic Act 10591) in Barangay Bahi, Barobo. Local leaders reported that during the knock-and-announce procedure, Tuazon accidentally came into contact with an electrified metal fence, causing him to lose consciousness from electrocution.

He was initially rushed to San Francisco Doctors Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with cardiac arrhythmia secondary to electrocution. Subsequently, he was transferred to a medical facility in Butuan, where he was found to have hypoxic encephalopathy caused by post-cardiac arrest due to the electrocution.

Honoring a Hero: Medal Award and Legacy

While still hospitalized, Tuazon was awarded the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting (Medal of the Gallant Wounded) on August 4. The award was presented by Brig. Gen. Magistrado alongside Police Lieutenant Colonel Michael Lozada, Police Colonel Filemon Pacios, and other senior officials. This honor recognized his valor and dedication despite his critical condition.

Sadly, Patrolman Tuazon passed away on August 10 due to cardiac arrest. Officials expressed profound sorrow but emphasized his unwavering commitment to protecting the public. “Patrolman Tuazon embodied the true spirit of service—fearless in the face of danger, unwavering in his commitment to the law, and deeply devoted to protecting our people. His courage will forever inspire us, and his sacrifice will never be forgotten,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Michael Lozada in a statement.

Continuing the Legacy of Service

Brigadier General Magistrado assured that Tuazon’s legacy of bravery and sacrifice will forever be honored by the Caraga police force. The organization remains committed to supporting the families of fallen heroes and keeping their memories alive as a source of inspiration for all officers.
