Carla Abellana Shares Insights on Egg Freezing Process

Carla Abellana’s Journey with Egg Freezing

Carla Abellana has always dreamed of becoming a mother. To prepare for the possibility of having children without a partner, she underwent the egg freezing process. At 38, soon turning 39, she admitted that conceiving naturally might become more challenging, which led her to take this proactive step.

During an interview, she revealed, “Ako po ay nagpa egg harvest and freeze. Kung alam ko po about it, mas earlier ginawa ko ng mas maaga, ideally nasa mid to late twenties n’yo dapat gawin sa mga kababaihan po, e, ako mid-thirties ko na nalaman.” She explained that egg freezing offers women the option to preserve their fertility by harvesting and freezing their egg cells at an accredited clinic. This way, they control the timing of pregnancy, whether single or married, by using these frozen eggs later.

Understanding the Egg Freezing Process

Carla elaborated, “Gagamitin na ‘yung frozen eggs, gagawin ng embryo through fertilization of IVF (in vitro fertilization) puwede na po kayong magbuntis.” However, she emphasized that the procedure is not easy. Besides the cost, it requires emotional readiness and proper rest, which can be difficult with a busy schedule.

“Mahal po talaga ang presyo pero may ways naman po, may options naman po na hindi naman kaagad buo ‘yung pera na pambayad,” she noted. The process involves hormone injections that can trigger strong emotions, so being mentally prepared is crucial. Carla also mentioned the importance of being open-minded about the results and accepting whatever outcome the doctors provide.

Challenges and Encouragement for Women

Starting in February, Carla was able to collect two egg cells, but they were not ideal. She plans to continue until the quality improves. She advised women to freeze their eggs earlier and harvest many to increase the chances of success.

Her mother added, “Kaya hindi mo na kailangan ng asawa para magka-anak, if you’re not the marrying type you can still have children.” This reflects the growing number of single women prioritizing their careers and opting to freeze their eggs as a way to plan their families on their own terms.
