Classes Suspended in Cavite Due to Inclement Weather
MANILA, Philippines — The province of Cavite has suspended all classes on Monday, June 23, 2025, affecting public and private schools from pre-school through senior high school. This decision comes as officials respond to the forecast of severe weather conditions.
Governor Athena Tolentino announced the suspension, citing warnings from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). The agency predicted moderate to heavy rains paired with strong winds in Cavite, prompting the local government to prioritize the safety of students and staff.
“As a precaution, all classes from elementary to senior high school in the entire province of Cavite are suspended tomorrow, Monday, June 23, 2025,” Tolentino stated in a Facebook post, emphasizing the importance of caution amid the expected inclement weather.
Higher Education Institutions to Decide Independently
The suspension does not automatically apply to colleges and universities. Instead, administrators of these institutions will decide whether to hold classes, based on their assessment of the local situation and safety concerns.
Weather Outlook: Southwest Monsoon Brings Heavy Rains
According to Pagasa’s morning weather briefing, the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, continues to influence the weather in many parts of the country. Cloud clusters from this weather system are bringing widespread rains and thunderstorms.
Several regions including Metro Manila, Calabarzon (where Cavite is located), and provinces such as Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan in Luzon are experiencing cloudy skies with scattered showers. Additionally, areas in Mindanao like the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, Soccsksargen, and Davao Region also face similar weather patterns.
The state weather bureau further noted that the rest of the country is expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the habagat effect.
Precautionary Measures and Public Safety
Local leaders noted that these class suspensions are preventive measures to avoid accidents or other hazards during adverse weather. Parents, students, and school personnel are advised to stay updated through official channels and follow announcements from local governments and school administrations.
The decision to suspend classes reflects the province’s commitment to public safety amid the unpredictable and potentially dangerous weather conditions brought by the southwest monsoon.
