CEAP Calls for Senate Action on Vice President Impeachment Trial
The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), the nation’s largest network of Catholic schools, has issued a strong appeal to the Philippine Senate to advance the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. CEAP emphasized that moving forward with the impeachment trial is not only a constitutional duty but also a vital moral and democratic responsibility.
“This is the constitutional imperative, as affirmed by legal and constitutional experts,” CEAP stated. “This is the moral imperative—to search for the truth, to defend the impeached, and to uphold the rule of law.” The association also highlighted that proceeding with the impeachment trial is essential to preserve democratic values like due process, transparency, checks and balances, and public accountability.
Senators Called to Rise Above Personal Interests
CEAP appealed to Senators to put aside personal and political agendas and honor their solemn oath to serve the Filipino people with integrity and courage. “To our Senators, this is a call for personal transcendence: transcend your personal and political interests and fight for truth and justice. This was your vow when we elected you,” the organization urged.
The group reminded lawmakers that their commitment to Filipinos is also a promise to God, who has entrusted them with the power to lead and serve. They added, “This was your commitment to the Filipino people. This was the promise you made to your God, who blessed you with the power to lead and serve.”
Upholding Truth, Justice, and Democratic Principles
Quoting Ephesians 6:14 — “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place” — CEAP encouraged spiritual discernment and moral courage among the Senators. The association stressed that continuing the impeachment trial is crucial for maintaining transparency, due process, public accountability, and the system of checks and balances that supports a healthy democracy.
A Crucial Moment for Philippine Democracy
The impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte has captured national attention, sparking discussions among civil society groups, faith-based organizations, and legal experts. As public pressure intensifies, the Senate’s response will be closely observed as a key test of democratic governance and the rule of law.
CEAP concluded its statement by urging Senators to act with bravery and integrity in fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities. “We pray that you honor your vow, commitment, and blessing—with spiritual discernment, courage, and action,” the group said.
