Cebu Gov Releases 158M Aid to Northern Cebu LGUs

Financial Aid for Northern Cebu LGUs

Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro has allocated a substantial financial assistance package totaling P158 million to support 12 northern Cebu local government units (LGUs) severely impacted by the recent magnitude 6.9 earthquake. This prompt response aims to help communities recover swiftly from the devastation caused by the natural disaster.

Among the recipients is Bogo City, identified as the earthquake’s epicenter, along with other affected municipalities. Officials reported that the funds will be used for emergency repairs, relief operations, and rehabilitation projects to restore essential services and infrastructure.

Targeted Assistance for Earthquake Recovery

The financial assistance to northern Cebu LGUs reflects the provincial government’s commitment to disaster resilience and community support. Local leaders noted that the earthquake inflicted significant damage on public buildings, homes, and roads, disrupting daily life and local economies.

Community members expressed gratitude for the aid, emphasizing the importance of timely government intervention. “Daku gyud ang tabang ani nga pondo para sa among pagbangon,” a resident said, highlighting the critical role of the funds in accelerating recovery efforts.

Allocation and Utilization of Funds

Sources said the P158 million will be distributed based on the extent of damage assessed in each LGU. The provincial government is coordinating closely with municipal officials to ensure transparent and efficient use of the resources, prioritizing the most urgent needs.

In addition to infrastructure repair, the funds will support livelihood programs and health services to address the broader impact of the earthquake on affected communities. Officials reported ongoing monitoring to track progress and address challenges promptly.

Strengthening Disaster Preparedness

Beyond immediate relief, the provincial administration is also focusing on enhancing disaster preparedness measures. Local leaders noted plans to improve early warning systems and community education to mitigate the effects of future calamities.

Governor Baricuatro underscored the importance of unity and resilience, encouraging all stakeholders to work together in rebuilding northern Cebu. “We will continue to support our communities until they are fully restored,” she said.
