Cebu Governor-Elect Initiates Transition Process
Cebu City—Cebu governor-elect Pamela Baricuatro has officially started the transition process at the Cebu Provincial Capitol. She sent a formal letter to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Cebu Provincial Office requesting assistance to ensure a smooth and orderly turnover from the outgoing administration led by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia. This move marks the beginning of preparations for the incoming leadership to take charge.
In the letter, Baricuatro informed DILG-Cebu Provincial Director Dr. Robel T. Sastrillo Jr. that she also reached out to Regional Director Leocadio T. Trovela to seek support for the transition. To streamline the process, a dedicated transition team has been formed under the leadership of Atty. Edmund T. Lao. This team will coordinate closely with the DILG and the outgoing officials to facilitate a seamless handover.
Transition Team and Their Roles
The transition team includes several key members assigned to specific areas. Paulo Uy serves as vice head, focusing on IT and digital concerns. Ruben Licera manages media relations, information dissemination, and tourism. Aldwin Empaces oversees administrative functions. Legal and legislative matters are handled by Atty. Rubie Virtucio. Former Mayor Titing Esgana is responsible for budget and audit, while Ferliza Contratista manages human resources and communications.
Baricuatro expressed her gratitude to the over 1.1 million Cebuanos who supported her candidacy. She emphasized that the election results clearly signal a desire for change and real progress in Cebu. Despite facing a well-established opponent with broader congressional backing, Baricuatro triumphed with only one mayor’s support and the endorsement of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Appeal to the People of Cebu
As she prepares to lead the province, Baricuatro made a heartfelt appeal to all Cebuanos. “Ang hangyo ni Gov. Pam? Tabangan siya. Ubanan siya. Kay kamo ang Sugbo ug kamo pud ang gahum nga nagpaluyo sa iyang pagserbisyo isip Gobernador,” she said. This translates to a call for collective support and unity, highlighting that the people are the true strength behind her service as governor.
Local experts indicate that the smooth transition and cooperation between the incoming and outgoing administrations will be crucial for ensuring continued progress in Cebu. The transition team’s clear structure and assigned roles aim to address this need efficiently.
