Cebuano Vlogger Faces Arrest Over Anti-Violence Against Women Law
CEBU CITY – Ronie Suan, a 25-year-old Cebuano vlogger known as “Boy Tapang,” was arrested once more for allegedly violating the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act. This arrest has brought renewed attention to the enforcement of this important law protecting women from domestic abuse.
Suan, a resident of Barangay Daan Lungsod in Alcoy town, Cebu, voluntarily surrendered to the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) at noon on Friday, May 30. He was subsequently released after posting a bail of P72,000.
Details Behind the Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The arrest stemmed from a warrant dated May 26, issued by a regional trial court in Cainta, Rizal. The warrant was signed by Judge Maria Ella Cecilia Dimaandal Dumlao-Escalante of Branch 143, with bail recommended at P72,000.
This is not Suan’s first encounter with the law regarding this matter. On April 1, authorities apprehended him in Alcoy following allegations that he physically abused his live-in partner. Although the complainant initially withdrew the charges, the Prosecutor’s Office in Argao continued the case with inquest proceedings.
Suan has consistently denied any physical assault, stating he did not harm his partner. During his first arrest, he posted bail of P3,000 and was released.
Law Enforcement and Public Reaction
The CCPO’s City Intelligence Unit carried out the arrest as part of ongoing Simultaneous Anti-Criminality Law Enforcement Operations in Central Visayas, highlighting their commitment to addressing domestic violence cases.
Suan’s case has drawn significant public interest due to his large online following. With over five million followers on Facebook, the vlogger’s activities and legal issues have been widely discussed. Reports indicate that the latest charges were filed by a female vlogger, further intensifying attention on this case.
Community leaders and local experts emphasize the importance of enforcing the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act to protect victims and ensure justice.
