Chief Justice Urges Filipinos to Protect Philippine Independence

Guarding Philippine Independence Against Corruption

Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo called on every Filipino to defend the Philippines—not only from foreign threats but also from internal challenges such as corruption, negligence, and abuses. Speaking on behalf of the judiciary, Gesmundo delivered his message during the 127th Philippine Independence Day celebration at the historic Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite.

The Chief Justice emphasized that protecting Philippine independence requires more than waving flags; it demands active participation in fighting the issues that threaten the nation’s progress. He urged Filipinos to recognize that reforms can be achieved not only through conflict but also via the judiciary, education, and government agencies—”kung talagang gugustuhin natin.”

Continuing the Fight for True Independence

He reminded the nation that independence is not a prize won once and for all; rather, it is a continuous effort that shapes the present and future.

This message calls Filipinos to remain vigilant and proactive in preserving the hard-won freedoms.

Embodying the Spirit of Independence Through Action

On this special day, Gesmundo encouraged citizens to celebrate independence by not only waving the flag and recalling history but also by taking meaningful action.

He urged Filipinos to renew their vows that led to the nation’s freedom and to teach younger generations the values their heroes cherished: love of country, self-sacrifice for the common good, and an unwavering pursuit to improve the nation.
