China is working closely with Philippine authorities to gather details about a Chinese man caught with suspected spy gear near government offices in Metro Manila. At the same time, Beijing has warned local politicians against exploiting the incident to stir up anti-China sentiments.
The man was arrested Tuesday near the Comelec building in Intramuros, Manila. Authorities had been tracking him and a companion as they lingered around key government offices over the past few days.
China’s Foreign Ministry quickly responded, emphasizing it has no plans to meddle in the Philippines’ internal affairs. “We will not interfere and have no interest in interfering in the relevant internal affairs of the Philippines,” said spokesperson Guo Jiakun. He also urged some Filipino politicians to stop using the event to push “China-related issues” or make baseless claims for political gain.
Despite the arrest, Comelec confirmed that its systems showed no signs of disruption. Meanwhile, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro described the episode as “quite alarming.”
This unusual incident adds a layer of suspense as the country prepares for Eleksyon 2025. Stay tuned for updates and in-depth coverage.
