Chinese National Arrested for Selling Agricultural Products Without Permits in Batangas
Authorities have apprehended a Chinese national for selling agricultural products without the required permits and licenses. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Batangas District Office conducted an entrapment operation that led to the arrest of Chen Mouzhun last May 27.
During the operation, NBI agents posed as buyers and found that Chen failed to present the necessary documents to legally sell his agricultural goods. The seized goods included 199 sacks of onions and 51 sacks of garlic, all labeled “Imported from China.”
Legal Charges and Background of the Operation
Officials said Chen will face charges under Section 7 of Republic Act No. 12022, also known as the Anti-Agricultural Sabotage Act of 2024. This law targets illegal activities that harm the country’s agricultural sector.
The entrapment followed reports from local sources about unknown individuals transporting and selling smuggled agricultural products, particularly onions and garlic, in Batangas province. This prompted the NBI to take swift action to protect local farmers and consumers.
Impact on Local Agriculture and Enforcement Efforts
Authorities emphasized that selling agricultural products without permits disrupts the local market and undermines food security. “This operation aims to stop illegal trade and ensure that all agricultural products meet government standards,” officials noted.
The NBI continues to intensify its efforts to monitor and clamp down on smuggling activities throughout the region. They encourage the public to report suspicious transactions to help safeguard the agriculture industry.
