CIDG Cracks Down on Illegal LPG Products in Bacolod
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) successfully arrested five individuals involved in selling illegal LPG products in Bacolod City. Authorities conducted a targeted operation focused on halting the supply and distribution of these unlawful liquefied petroleum gas items.
Officials reported that the suspects were caught refilling and trading illegally refined butane canisters sourced from LPG tanks. The operation took place at Hacienda Elisa in Negros Occidental on June 30, where law enforcement seized a significant amount of contraband.
Seizure Highlights and Evidence Confiscated
During the raid, authorities confiscated numerous items linked to the illegal LPG product trade. These included refilled and empty butane canisters, 12 improvised refilling machines, 92 empty LPG tanks, and three filled LPG tanks. The total estimated value of the seized goods reached approximately P1.3 million, underscoring the scale of the illicit activity.
Community members noted that the operation targeted not only the sellers but also the dangerous methods used to refine and refill LPG canisters, which pose serious safety risks to the public.
Legal Charges and Public Safety Concerns
The arrested individuals now face charges under the law that defines and penalizes prohibited acts involving petroleum and petroleum products. This legislation aims to protect public interest and national security from the hazards of illegal fuel operations.
One official emphasized, “This operation is not just about enforcement – it saves lives. Each illegally refilled canister is a potential threat.” The same source assured the public that the CIDG remains unwavering in enforcing laws and combating illegal activities related to petroleum products.
Ongoing Commitment to Public Safety
Authorities reaffirmed their dedication to protecting citizens from the dangers posed by illegal LPG products. They stressed that such operations are crucial in preventing accidents and ensuring the safety of communities.
“The CIDG is dauntless, the CIDG means business,” a spokesperson declared, highlighting the agency’s resolve to continue its fight against unlawful practices in the energy sector.
