Mayor and Wife Arrested in 2024 Ambush Case
Authorities from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) recently apprehended the mayor of a town in Maguindanao del Sur along with his wife. The arrest relates to the 2024 ambush that resulted in the death of South Upi vice mayor Roldan Benito and his security aide. This operation highlights the CIDG’s dedication to solving high-profile crimes and ensuring justice.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the couple was taken into custody under a Cotabato City court-issued arrest warrant. The charges include murder, attempted murder, and frustrated murder linked to the ambush that occurred on August 2 last year.
Details of the 2024 Ambush and Charges
The investigation revealed that the mayor and his wife, identified as Rey and Janet Insular, are accused of acting as the masterminds behind the ambush. Reports indicate they allegedly planned and orchestrated the attack that claimed the lives of Vice Mayor Benito and his security aide, Weng Marcos.
During the attack, the vice mayor’s wife, Analyn, and their 11-year-old child were also injured. Alongside the couple, ten other individuals have been charged in connection with the incident.
