Cigarettes Worth P1.36 Million Seized in Quezon City
Authorities seized cigarettes worth P1.36 million in Quezon City on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, for alleged trademark violations, local sources said. The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) led the operation along Mendoza Street in Barangay Sangandaan.
During the raid, officers confiscated 11 master cases and 40 reams of cigarettes bearing various brand markings. A male suspect, identified only as “Angelo,” was arrested on the spot.
Trademark Violation Charges Filed Against Suspect
The suspect faces charges for the “unauthorized use of a registered trademark or a confusingly similar mark in commerce, which may cause deception or confusion among consumers,” authorities explained. The case was filed with the National Prosecution Service under Republic Act 8293, also known as the Intellectual Property Code.
Police noted that such operations aim to protect consumers and uphold intellectual property rights by preventing counterfeit products from entering the market. In a similar incident, cigarettes valued at P2 million were seized in Malabon for trademark violations earlier this year.
The CIDG emphasized ongoing efforts to crack down on counterfeit goods that threaten both public health and legitimate businesses.
