City Mayors Rally Behind Online Gambling Ban
The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) and the Metro Manila Council (MMC) have expressed firm support for the online gambling ban for local government personnel. This directive, issued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), aims to curb gambling activities among government employees and officials.
Through DILG Memorandum Circular 2025-082, the prohibition targets all forms of online gambling involving local government units (LGUs) personnel. Local leaders emphasized the importance of this ban in fostering integrity and public trust.

“We give our full support to the DILG directive prohibiting whatever online gambling method when it comes to our employees in city governments,” said San Juan City Mayor and LCP and MMC President Francis Zamora during a radio interview. He highlighted that both online and physical gambling can destroy lives and families.
As public servants, Zamora noted, LGU employees must serve as positive examples to their communities. This stance reflects a shared commitment among mayors nationwide to uphold ethical standards.

South Cotabato Governor and League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) President Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. explained that the memorandum reiterates Republic Act 6713, also known as the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees. This law sets the ethical framework for public servants nationwide.
Should any LGU official or employee violate the ban, they face administrative or criminal charges, according to local leaders. Authorities are currently awaiting detailed implementing rules from the DILG to guide enforcement.
