Cloudy weather with chances of rain is expected to affect parts of the country due to the trough of a low-pressure area east of Luzon, officials reported in their latest weather update.
The low-pressure area 08c, which formed from a cluster of clouds on Friday night, was detected 640 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales, outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), sources said.
Impact of Low-Pressure Area Trough
Despite its location beyond the PAR, the trough—a stretched zone of low atmospheric pressure—continues to influence weather conditions over Luzon. It is forecasted to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms across several northern and central provinces, community members noted.
Weather experts highlighted that the trough will particularly affect the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, as well as Batanes province and the Babuyan Islands. “The skies will be cloudy,” a specialist explained in Filipino. “Moderate to occasionally heavy rains are possible.”
Southwest Monsoon Brings Rain and Thunderstorms
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, is expected to cause cloudy weather with rain showers and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the Bicol Region, officials reported.
“Most likely, in the afternoon and evening, that’s when we’ll see heavier rains,” community leaders quoted the weather specialist as saying.
This monsoon will also bring occasional heavy rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan and the Visayas. Other parts of Luzon and the entire Mindanao region will experience rain showers mainly due to localized thunderstorms.
Sea Conditions and Safety Advisories
Despite these weather disturbances, no gale warnings have been issued for the country’s seaboards, sources confirmed. However, moderate sea conditions are expected off Western and Northern Luzon, with waves reaching between 1.2 and 2.5 meters. Light to moderate sea conditions will prevail in other coastal areas.
Authorities also noted they are closely monitoring another cluster of clouds east of Luzon, indicating ongoing vigilance amid changing weather patterns.
