Comelec Targets Proclamation of Winning 12 Senators
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to proclaim the winning 12 senators for Eleksyon 2025 by Saturday, May 17, 2025. This earliest date is the goal of the poll body as vote canvassing progresses swiftly.
Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia shared, “Baka itong Sabado o Linggo, sana makapag-proklama na tayo ng senador.” (We can proclaim winning senators by Saturday or Sunday.) The poll body is optimistic about announcing the results soon.
Fast Transmission of Election Returns Speeds Canvassing
Garcia noted the quick transmission of election returns (ERs), saying, “Mabilis naman eh. Tingnan niyo 98.9% na nga ang nandyan, kapiraso na lang ang kulang. Kahit siguro wala yung kulang basta maipadala sa amin sa national board perhaps baka wala ng effect ang natitirang results. Pero syempre kailangan ang Comelec 100% ang canvass. Walang kahit isa man na COC ang maiiiwan pag nag-canvass ang Comelec.” (The transmission was fast. Look, we are now at 98.9%. Maybe the remaining data will not affect the results but of course, the Comelec will ensure we will canvass all COCs.)
He emphasized that the Comelec will canvass every certificate of canvass (COC) to guarantee the accuracy and integrity of the results.
May 17 Set as Earliest Proclamation Date
When asked if May 17 is the earliest date the Comelec is targeting for proclamation, Garcia replied, “Yes. Sana. Kung papasok lahat ngayon.” (Yes, we’re hoping we could proclaim by Saturday if all ER results will be transmitted today.) This shows the poll body’s commitment to timely and transparent election processes.
Current Status of Vote Transmission
As of Tuesday morning, the Comelec media server showed that 80.55% of the expected election returns had been transmitted. This accounts for 46,214,185 votes out of 69,772,653 registered voters. The National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), composed of the Comelec officials, has already reconvened to continue canvassing votes for senators and party-list groups.
