Concerns Raised During Final Testing of Voting Machines
The Archdiocesan Commission on Elections Monitoring-Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (ACE-COM PPCRV) recently flagged several issues during the final testing and sealing (FTS) of automated counting machines (ACMs).
Among the concerns were tents and posters displaying candidates’ names near polling areas. These materials could violate election rules if left unaddressed.
Action Taken on Election Materials
One notable case involved a tent with a candidate’s name at Rafael Castillo Covered Court in Barangay R. Castillo, District 2. Authorities promptly covered the names with white plaster. ACE-COM PPCRV emphasized that such displays must be removed or covered to comply with election regulations.
“They will issue guidance to remove these materials. If removal is not possible, covering them is required because it is strictly prohibited,” an official explained.
Final Testing for 2025 Elections Underway
Comelec conducted the FTS to prepare for the 2025 National and Local Elections scheduled on May 12, 2025. During the process at Davao City National High School, ACE-COM PPCRV noted some glitches in a few ACMs. However, most machines were working properly.
Importance of Correct Ballot Shading
Voters were reminded to shade their ballots correctly to avoid errors. Improper shading was identified as the main cause of glitches in the machines. Comelec officials stressed that careful marking ensures votes are accurately counted.
With these steps, authorities aim to uphold the integrity of the upcoming elections and ensure a smooth voting process.
