Public to Witness Vote Counting Safely
In Region 7, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) urges canvassing boards to install LED screens or projectors outside canvassing centers. This allows the public to witness the ballot counting without entering restricted areas.
According to the regional Comelec office, only authorized personnel can enter canvassing venues once official counting begins. These include accredited poll watchers and legal counsels, each representing candidates with proper documentation.
Strict Access Rules to Maintain Order
Supporters of candidates are strictly prohibited from entering canvassing sites to avoid crowding and disturbances. However, family members of candidates may be allowed entry depending on space and the chairman’s discretion.
“If there is enough room and it will not interrupt the process, family members may be accommodated,” the Comelec explained.
Encouraging Viewing Areas for Transparency
To further ensure transparency, local government units and election officers are encouraged to set up viewing areas outside the canvassing centers. This includes using LED walls and projectors so the public can follow the vote tally safely.
The region is fully prepared for the May 12 election day. All systems and setups are complete, ensuring a smooth and transparent canvassing process.
“We are 100 percent ready and just waiting for the election day,” the Comelec office assured.
