Commission on Audit Targets Flood-Control Projects
The Commission on Audit (COA) has initiated a fraud audit on flood-control projects in Bulacan province, setting the wheels in motion on the President’s commitment to crack down on unscrupulous contractors. Bulacan received the largest share of funding for flood-control projects in Central Luzon from 2022 to 2025, making it a focal point of the investigation, officials reported.
In a memorandum dated August 12, COA Chair Gamaliel Cordoba cited findings from the “Sumbong sa Pangulo” website. These findings detailed that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) had implemented P548 billion worth of flood-control projects nationwide from the Marcos administration’s start on July 1, 2022, until May 30 this year, community members said.
Oil Price Movements Set for August 19
Following recent price adjustments, local pump prices are expected to shift in varying directions on Tuesday, August 19. According to separate advisories, gasoline prices will rise by 60 centavos per liter, while diesel and kerosene prices will decrease by 80 centavos and 90 centavos per liter, respectively, sources said.
These movements reflect ongoing fluctuations in the global oil market and efforts by oil companies to balance consumer costs with supply challenges, industry observers noted.
Senate Minority Leader Calls for Drug Testing
Senate Minority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III has urged Senate President Francis Escudero to implement mandatory random drug testing within the Senate premises. This call comes amid reports of alleged marijuana use inside the upper chamber, local leaders noted.
In a formal letter addressed to Escudero, Sotto emphasized that the measure would help maintain a drug-free workplace. He stated it would “ensure that the morale, efficiency, integrity, responsiveness, progressiveness, and courtesy shall be observed in the civil service.”
These developments underscore ongoing efforts to uphold transparency, accountability, and discipline across key government sectors.
