Attempted Arson at Iglesia ni Cristo Church in Quezon
MAUBAN, Quezon – A 40-year-old construction worker was arrested for attempting to burn an Iglesia ni Cristo church in Barangay Soledad on the morning of May 19. Reports indicate that the suspect, identified only as Arjay, entered the church armed with three Molotov cocktail bombs.
The incident unfolded as the suspect tried to ignite the church, a well-known independent nontrinitarian Christian organization. Members inside the church attempted to restrain him, but Arjay ignored their efforts.
Suspect Causes Damage and Threatens Return
During the confrontation, Arjay broke a window and hurled one of the incendiary devices inside, starting a fire that church members quickly managed to extinguish. After the failed arson attempt, the suspect left the premises while threatening to return and burn the church.
Local authorities conducted a follow-up operation in Barangay Sadsaran, leading to Arjay’s arrest. Community leaders estimate the property damage to be around P50,000.
