Shabu Bust in Cabanatuan City Nets Construction Worker, Farmer
CABANATUAN CITY – Authorities arrested a construction worker and his alleged accomplice, a farmer, after a buy-bust operation yielded P683,400 worth of suspected shabu (crystal meth) inside a subdivision early on Saturday, June 28. The successful shabu bust in Cabanatuan City highlights ongoing efforts to curb illegal drug trade in the area.
Colonel Hyril Bruno, the acting provincial director of the Nueva Ecija police provincial office (NEPPO), reported that the suspects, aged 42 and 43, both residents of Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija, were apprehended at around 1:30 a.m. The Cabanatuan City police’s drug enforcement unit seized a total of 100.5 grams of suspected shabu from them.
Details of the Operation and Arrest
The suspects were caught after selling a sachet weighing 0.5 grams of shabu for P1,000 to an undercover operative. Following the buy-bust, police conducted a thorough search. They recovered the buy-bust money, a knot-tied transparent plastic bag, and five heat-sealed sachets containing white crystalline substances believed to be shabu, estimated to weigh about 75 grams, from the construction worker.
From the second suspect, the farmer, police confiscated another heat-sealed sachet containing an estimated 27 grams of suspected shabu. These combined quantities contributed to the total value of P683,400 in illegal drugs.
Charges and Detention
Lieutenant Colonel Renato Morales, the city police chief, confirmed that both suspects are now detained at the city jail. They face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The operation is part of a sustained campaign to dismantle drug networks and prevent the spread of illegal substances in Nueva Ecija.
Authorities continue to intensify anti-drug efforts to protect communities and maintain peace and order. Local leaders noted the importance of vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement and the public to effectively combat drug-related crimes.
