Cordillera Police Target Marijuana Plantation Income Survey
TUGUEGARAO CITY — Authorities in the Cordillera region intensified efforts against illegal drug cultivation by targeting marijuana plantations. On Friday, June 27, anti-drug agents and police uprooted and burned marijuana plants valued at approximately P6.9 million in Tinglayan, Kalinga.
Leading the operation was the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Cagayan Valley, supported by PDEA-Kalinga units, Kalinga police anti-drug teams, mobile groups, and the local Tinglayan police force. Together, they removed around 34,500 fully grown marijuana plants from a 2.3-hectare plantation located in Barangay Loccong.
Coordinated Efforts to Eradicate Illegal Crops
The joint operation was a decisive move to disrupt the income sources linked to illegal marijuana cultivation. The teams meticulously uprooted the plants before setting the plantation ablaze to prevent future growth. Despite the thorough operation, no cultivators or caretakers were caught during the raid.
Local leaders noted that investigations continue to identify the owners responsible for the plantation. “We are determined to uncover those behind this illegal activity,” a source said, emphasizing ongoing efforts to dismantle the drug trade in the region.
Continuing the Fight Against Illegal Marijuana
This latest campaign follows previous efforts where marijuana plants worth over P1 million were destroyed in the area. Authorities remain vigilant, aiming to halt the cultivation and distribution of illegal substances by targeting their income sources through income surveys and plantation eradication.
Residents expressed support for the crackdown, hoping it would lead to safer communities and reduced drug-related problems. The police and PDEA urge the public to cooperate and report any suspicious activities related to illegal drug plantations.
