New Monkeypox Cases in Cotabato City
Cotabato City has confirmed three new monkeypox cases, raising the total number of confirmed infections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to eight. Health officials announced the update on Tuesday, alerting the public to the growing situation.
Dr. Harris Ali, the city health officer, shared that the three new patients—a 28-year-old woman under treatment, a 72-year-old man, and a four-year-old boy—are currently isolated at home. He also noted that 14 suspected monkeypox cases remain under close observation in the city.
“I urge the public to visit health centers or the nearest hospital immediately if symptoms of monkeypox begin to appear, such as fever, cough, body aches, headache, and others,” Ali said during a radio interview.

Across BARMM, Dr. Kadil Sinolinding, the regional health minister, confirmed a total of eight confirmed monkeypox cases, six probable cases, and 23 suspected cases as of June 2. He emphasized that while monkeypox is contagious, it can be prevented through proper hygiene and safety practices.
“The Ministry of Health continuously conducts surveillance activities and provides necessary support and treatment based on established medical standards of care to all exposed and infected individuals,” he said in a separate interview.
Preventive Measures and Public Advice
Sinolinding advised the public to practice simple yet effective precautions: cover the mouth when coughing or sneezing, ensure good ventilation in indoor spaces, wash hands regularly or use hand sanitizer, and avoid close contact with anyone showing monkeypox symptoms.
These efforts aim to control the spread of monkeypox while safeguarding the health of the community. Authorities are actively monitoring the situation and encouraging anyone who experiences symptoms to seek immediate medical attention.
