Couple Dies After Electrocution Inside Flooded House in Bulacan
CALUMPIT, Bulacan — A tragic incident unfolded when a couple died after electrocution inside their flooded house in Barangay Calumpang on July 24. Heavy rains caused severe flooding, which led to the fatal accident.
Local officials confirmed that the victims, Felipe Razon, 74, and his wife Ofelia Razon, 57, suffered electrocution inside their home. The intense rains caused the metal sheet roof of their nipa hut, where live electrical wires were attached, to collapse onto the flooded floor.
Electrocution Inside Flooded House: How It Happened
According to community disaster management sources, Felipe was the first to be electrocuted around 9 a.m. while wading through the floodwaters inside their house. When Ofelia rushed to help her husband, she too was electrocuted.
The Calumpit Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head, Enriquito Santiago Jr., explained that rescuers faced delays in reaching the couple because the live electrical wires posed significant danger.
Emergency Response and Aftermath
Utility company crews arrived at the scene to cut the electrical supply promptly. However, by the time power was shut off, both victims had already perished. Local leaders expressed their condolences and urged residents to exercise caution during flooding, especially around electrical sources.
