COVID-19 Cases in the Philippines Continue Declining
COVID-19 cases in the Philippines continue to decline steadily, the Department of Health reports, even as some Asian countries experience a rise in infections. This reassuring trend shows the country remains in a strong position amid the regional increase.
Recent reports indicate that Singapore, Thailand, and Hong Kong have seen a surge in COVID-19 cases. Nevertheless, the Philippine health authorities emphasize there is no immediate cause for alarm.
“We are actively coordinating through established mechanisms like the ASEAN. This gives us verified information, boosting readiness even as we see no cause for alarm,” the Department of Health stated.
Current COVID-19 Data Shows Significant Improvement
As of May 3, 2025, the country has recorded only 1,774 COVID-19 cases this year, marking an 87% drop compared to the 14,074 cases documented throughout 2024. The case fatality rate currently stands at a low 1.13%, reflecting better management and treatment outcomes.
The downward trend is further confirmed by weekly data: between April 6 and 19, only 65 cases were reported, which is fewer than the 71 cases recorded during the previous period from March 23 to April 5.
Preventive Measures Remain Essential
While the Philippines is in a much better position regarding COVID-19, the Department of Health reminds everyone to continue following basic health protocols to prevent not only COVID-19 but other infectious diseases as well.
Recommended Health Practices
- Wear face masks in healthcare facilities
- Stay home when feeling sick
- Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing
- Wash hands regularly with soap and water
- Seek early medical advice if symptoms develop
“We are committed to keeping the public informed and will provide timely updates should the situation evolve,” the health department assured.
