Crime Rate Drops by 22.5% Nationwide
MANILA, Philippines — The nationwide crime rate has declined by 22.53 percent from January 1 to June 13, 2025, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP). This significant drop in crime rate highlights the ongoing efforts to improve public safety across the country.
The total number of focus crimes during this period fell to 14,162, compared to 18,280 recorded in the same timeframe last year, local sources noted. These figures reflect a positive turning point in the government’s fight against crime.
Understanding Focus Crimes
Focus crimes include serious offenses such as murder, homicide, rape, physical injuries, and theft involving vehicles and other property. The reduction in these crimes is a promising sign of safer communities nationwide.
Since assuming office as the PNP chief on June 2, 2025, General Nicolas Torre III has emphasized the importance of convincing the public that the crime rate is indeed falling. He has directed police forces to increase their presence on the streets through active patrols rather than staying confined in police boxes and community precincts.
“That’s the only way to regain trust, when the people know that whatever happens, the police are there. With only one call, they’ll respond,” he said in Filipino.
PNP’s Renewed Focus on Police Presence
This approach aims to rebuild public confidence by ensuring police officers are easily accessible and responsive. The strategy also supports the goal of faster response times, which the PNP is piloting in Metro Manila with a target police response within five minutes.
The continued decrease in crime rate reflects the combined efforts of law enforcement and community cooperation. The PNP remains committed to maintaining this positive trend through proactive policing and strengthened public relations.
