Crime Rate in Metro Manila Drops Significantly in May
The crime rate in Metro Manila fell by 46% from May 1 to 15, 2025, compared to the same period last year. This significant decline highlights the effectiveness of ongoing police efforts in the region.
Despite the added responsibilities of election-related duties, police officers remained committed to their roles in maintaining public safety. They actively conducted operations, managed checkpoints, and launched anti-criminality campaigns, which contributed to this drop in crime.
Breakdown of Focus Crimes and Their Decline
The reported decrease covers eight key crimes: murder, homicide, physical injuries, rape, robbery, theft, and carnapping. These offenses are considered serious due to their frequency and impact on the community.
Among these, rape cases experienced the most significant reduction, dropping by 76%. Physical injuries went down by 50%, while murder and homicide declined by 38% and 43%, respectively. Robbery and theft also saw decreases of 39% and 37%. Notably, carnapping of motor vehicles was eliminated entirely, showing a 100% drop, while motorcycle carnapping fell by 13%.
Improvements in Crime Resolution and Clearance
Alongside the reduction in crimes, there were notable improvements in how cases were handled. Crime Clearance Efficiency (CCE), which measures the number of closed cases, remained high at 90.97%. Meanwhile, Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE), indicating the number of cases resolved, increased from 67.60% to 76.13%, marking an 8.53% improvement.
Community Presence Key to Crime Prevention
The head of the regional police emphasized that preventing crime remains their primary responsibility. He stated, “Our first and fundamental duty is to prevent the occurrence of crimes and we can only do that effectively and consistently if we have a police force that is seen, heard and felt by the community.”
These results demonstrate the crucial role of a visible and proactive police presence in reducing the crime rate in Metro Manila. Continued efforts will be essential to maintain and further improve public safety.
