Crising Maintains Strength as It Approaches Luzon
Tropical Depression Crising continues to hold its strength while moving north-northwest over the waters east of Catanduanes. This development comes as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) closely monitors the storm’s path and impact.
According to recent updates, Crising was last located approximately 520 kilometers east-northeast of Juban, Sorsogon, and about 470 kilometers east-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes. It carries maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 Hoisted Over Luzon Areas
Because of Crising’s strength, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over several parts of Luzon. These include the southern portion of Batanes (Sabtang, Ivana, Uyugan, Mahatao, Basco), Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Quirino, and the northeastern part of Nueva Vizcaya. Other affected areas are northern Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao), Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, and northern Ilocos Sur.
Moreover, northern and eastern portions of Catanduanes (Pandan, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Viga, Gigmoto) are also under the warning. Residents in these regions are urged to take necessary precautions as the storm progresses.
Forecast and Possible Landfall
Forecasts suggest that Crising may intensify into a tropical storm within the day while moving generally northwestward. Pagasa said there is a possibility of landfall over mainland Cagayan between Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
After landfall, the storm is expected to move west-northwest, crossing the northern part of Northern Luzon. It may leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
Local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and advise communities to stay alert. “Mag-ingat po tayo sa darating na bagyo,” a local leader noted, emphasizing the importance of preparedness.
