Dan Fernandez Reflects on House Quad-Committee Role
Santa Rosa City lone district Rep. Dan Fernandez openly shared that he will never regret his involvement in the House quad-committee. Despite the quad-committee reportedly playing a major role in his 2025 mid-term election loss, Fernandez remains steadfast. “Hindi ko maiwasang makaramdam ng lungkot… at ng panghihinayang,” he said during the quad-comm’s final hearing of the 19th Congress on June 9.
Fernandez emphasized that many believe the quad-committee significantly affected his election outcome. “Hindi man po tayo pinalad noong nakaraang eleksyon, maraming nagsasabi na matindi ang naging demolition job hindi lang laban sa akin, kundi sa ilan sa mga kasamahan kong matagal nang nagsusulong ng mga isyung mahalaga para sa bayan,” he added.
The Quad-Committee’s Impact on Fernandez’s Campaign
Some critics linked Fernandez’s decision to join the quad-committee as a key reason for his defeat. However, he pointed out, “Sabi ng iba, ito daw pagsama ko sa quad-comm ang dahilan kung bakit hindi ako nanalo.” He acknowledged that multiple factors influenced the election but remained confident in his choices. “Hindi natin alam ang buong katotohanan—of course there were several other factors—pero ang sigurado po ako: hinding-hindi ko pinagsisisihan na ipinaglaban ko ang ating bansa,” he stressed.
Legacy of the Quad-Committee and Fernandez’s Advocacy
Fernandez, a third-term representative who ran for Laguna governor in the May 12 elections, finished third. During the 19th Congress, he chaired the Committee on Public Order and Safety. This committee, alongside the Committees on Dangerous Drugs, Human Rights, and Public Accounts, form the influential quad-committee.
Since August 2024, the quad-committee has investigated complex issues involving Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO), extrajudicial killings, money laundering, illegal drugs, and the controversial drug war under former President Rodrigo Duterte. Fernandez views his role in these hearings as a noble contribution.
“Ako po ay isang ama. At bilang isang tatay, hinding-hindi ko hahayaang ang mga anak natin—ang kabataan—ang siyang magdusa dahil sa ating kawalan ng paninindigan,” he said. His commitment reflects a deep concern for the country’s future generations.
