DBM Approves Funding for Child Development Centers
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the release of P309 million to support the construction of child development centers (CDCs) in 103 barangays. This funding is part of multi-purpose building projects aimed at improving early childhood care.
This vital budget will benefit 328 low-income local government units (LGUs) across the country. Of these, 89 are in Luzon, 106 in the Visayas, and 133 in Mindanao, including areas under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Support for Early Childhood Care
“In line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive, we are prioritizing the needs of children even before they enter formal schooling,” said Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, speaking in a mix of Filipino and English. “This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to provide children with a fair start through child development centers.”
The DBM emphasized that the program requires LGUs to contribute at least 150 square meters of land. They must also sign a memorandum of agreement with the Early Childhood Care and Development Council and take responsibility for the CDCs’ operations to ensure their sustainability.
Ensuring Long-Term Viability
Local leaders noted that the partnership between the DBM and LGUs is essential to maintain and manage these centers properly. The establishment of CDCs under this program will help improve access to early education and care, especially in underserved communities.
This move aligns with the government’s broader goal to strengthen early childhood development as a foundation for lifelong learning and growth.
