DBM Increases Honoraria for Election Workers
In preparation for the May 12, 2025 national and local elections, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved a P2,000 across-the-board increase in compensation for teachers and other poll workers. This move aims to recognize their vital role in ensuring a smooth and fair electoral process.
Adjusted Honoraria Rates for Electoral Board Members
According to the DBM, the new honoraria rates for members of the Electoral Boards have been raised as follows:
- Chairperson: from P10,000 to P12,000
- Poll clerk: from P9,000 to P11,000
- Third member: from P9,000 to P11,000
- Support staff: from P6,000 to P8,000
Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman emphasized that this increase was made under the directive of President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr. She expressed that finally, teachers and poll workers will receive fairer compensation for their dedication during the 2025 elections.
Ensuring Timely Release of Funds
Furthermore, Secretary Pangandaman urged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and other concerned agencies to ensure that the increased payments are released promptly. “I call on Comelec to make sure our teachers and poll workers receive their compensation as quickly as possible,” she said.
Budget and Scope of Election Workers
The approved budget for poll workers’ compensation under the Fiscal Year 2025 General Appropriations Act amounts to P7.48 billion. Meanwhile, Comelec estimates that around 758,549 poll workers will serve nationwide during the elections.
Additional Benefits for Election Service
Under the Election Service Reform Act and Comelec Resolution No. 10194, election workers are entitled not only to honoraria but also to travel, communication, and meal allowances, as well as service credits. These benefits aim to support their important work during election day.
With these measures, the government hopes to motivate and adequately reward those who help uphold the country’s democratic processes.
