DDB Secures Pagcor Funding for Drug Treatment
The Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) has received the P5 million mandatory contribution from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor). This funding is part of the support mandated by Republic Act 9165, famously known as “The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.” The DDB uses these funds to assist local and regional agencies in establishing and maintaining drug abuse treatment and rehabilitation centers.
DDB Chairman Oscar Valenzuela led a recent consultative meeting with key stakeholders to align strategies and programs that enhance drug treatment and rehabilitation services across the country. During the meeting, Valenzuela presented findings from the 2023 National Household Survey on Patterns and Trends of Drug Abuse, highlighting that marijuana and shabu remain the most commonly abused substances nationwide.
Strengthening Treatment and Rehabilitation Services
To build a more accessible and inclusive recovery journey, the DDB revisited earlier policy discussions focused on easing access to rehabilitation. These include plans to launch web-based consultation services and simplify documentary requirements for admission into treatment centers. Such initiatives aim to remove barriers and encourage more drug dependents to seek help without delay.
The board reaffirmed its commitment to President Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize treatment, rehabilitation, prevention, education, after-care, and reintegration. These elements are central to the country’s ongoing campaign against drug abuse and illegal trafficking, ensuring a holistic approach that supports recovery and social reintegration.
