Deadly Armed Encounter in Pasig City During Gun Buy-Bust
A 21-year-old man lost his life in a deadly armed encounter with police during a gun buy-bust operation in Pasig City. Authorities conducted the operation in Barangay Pinagbuhatan on June 13 after receiving credible information about the suspect’s involvement in illegal firearms sales.
Maj. Loreto Tigno, chief of the Pasig City Police Station-Investigation Management Section, said the suspect, identified as Mark, agreed to meet a poseur buyer to sell a .45-caliber pistol valued at P21,000. However, the situation quickly escalated when Mark fired at the buyer instead of handing over the weapon after receiving payment.
Gun Buy-Bust Operation Turns Violent
The poseur buyer managed to escape unharmed, while backup police officers arrived and returned fire. The suspect was hit and rushed to the hospital but was later declared dead. Sources said the swift police response prevented further casualties.
Further investigations revealed that before the operation, Mark and an accomplice had robbed a mobile phone seller during an online meetup. The stolen phones were valued at P81,516. The seller later came to the operation site and positively identified Mark as one of the robbers.
Suspect Linked to Multiple Crimes
Authorities also uncovered that Mark was involved in other criminal activities, including carnapping and acting as a gun-for-hire. The accomplice remains at large and is the target of an ongoing police manhunt.
Police continue to intensify efforts to dismantle illegal firearms trade and related criminal networks in the area. Local leaders noted the importance of community vigilance and timely reporting to curb such crimes.
